Abstract

In this article, the issue of translating agrotechnical terms is discussed, and the concept of «terminology» as a specialized word or word combination is defined. Special attention is given to the importance of terminology in the field of agrotechnics and the challenges associated with translating specialized terminology due to its ambiguity and differences in the process of terminology formation between German and Ukrainian languages. The article describes various translation strategies for terms that can be used to ensure accuracy and adequacy of translation. For example, translation using lexical equivalents, transcoding (including its types), calque, graphic representation, and descriptive translation are mentioned. Each of these methods has its advantages and limitations, and the choice of a specific method depends on the context and specificity of the term. Emphasis is placed on the importance of knowledge of native language terminology, understanding the meanings of terms in the corresponding foreign language, and contextual interaction of terms. The article also addresses the classification of terms, understanding and usage of which can be helpful in determining the optimal approach to term translation. The impact of context and thematic content on term translation is also considered, as proper understanding of context can be crucial for accurate term translation. In conclusion, the article emphasizes the importance of accurate translation of agricultural technical terms, as well as the presence of deep knowledge in the field of agrotechnics, understanding the content of terms in the corresponding foreign language, and mastery of native language terminology in order to achieve adequate translation of terminology. Researching these aspects contributes to improving the quality of translation of agrotechnical terms and facilitates effective communication among experts from different countries working in this field. This article can serve as a supplementary source of information for translators and specialists involved in the translation of agrotechnical terms, helping them understand the challenges of this pr ocess and choose the best translation strategies.
