Abstract

The field of magnesium and its alloys application has been analized. Physical and chemical properties of magnesium alloys have been revealed. The analysis of fires that occurred as a result of the combustion of magnesium and its alloys has been performed. Reactions of various substances in contact with magnesium have been explored. The analysis of modern methods and ways of magnesium fires extinguishing, difficulties and negative phenomena that occur during extinguishing have been done. Magnesium fire alloys are widely used for the manufacture of papalina grenades, which provoke combination fires (A,B,D classes). On the basis of fires analysis the main research priorities to improve magnesium fires extinguishing efficiency have been declared. The necessity of comprehensive approach which includes the development of new methods and techniques of extinguishing and also development of appropriate technical means has been prooved.
